How the Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA 2025) Will Contribute To ‘Creating Value for Africa’

In May 2025, Rwanda will proudly host the 8th edition of the Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA 2025), an event that has become a driving force in shaping Africa’s financial landscape. More than just a professional gathering, ACOA is a movement that fosters innovation, policy-shaping, and cross-sectoral collaboration aimed at Africa’s economic transformation. Under the theme “Creating Value for Africa,” the congress will convene over 2,000 delegates from 65+ countries at the Kigali Convention Centre from May 6–9, 2025.

Why ACOA 2025 Matters

Africa is experiencing a pivotal shift in its economic journey. A youthful population, increasing digital adoption, and regulatory advancements are creating new opportunities. However, financial mismanagement, weak institutions, and limited capital access remain significant hurdles. ACOA 2025 seeks to address these challenges through an interdisciplinary approach, recognizing that finance, governance, business, and social impact are deeply interconnected.

As professional accountants, policymakers, business leaders, and investors convene, ACOA will be more than a discussion hub—it will serve as an incubator for actionable strategies and initiatives that shape Africa’s future.

ACOA’s Impact Over the Years

Since its inception, ACOA has been a pivotal platform for shaping policies and strengthening the accounting profession across Africa. The congress was officially inaugurated in 2011, with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) hosting the first-ever ACOA in Nairobi under the theme “Accountancy & Infrastructure in Africa.”

The inaugural congress sparked thought-provoking discussions on the vital role of accountants in driving sustainable development across the continent. It highlighted the critical link between accountancy and infrastructure, emphasizing how sound financial management and transparency can enhance infrastructure development, economic growth, and overall societal well-being.

Each edition of ACOA builds on the lessons and commitments of previous congresses. ACOA 2025 will continue this legacy by fostering new partnerships, innovative financial strategies, and sustainable economic solutions for Africa’s future.

ACOA 2025, A Platform for Cross-Sectoral Engagement

While accountancy remains the backbone of ACOA, the congress has evolved into a multi-sectoral platform addressing key issues that influence Africa’s financial and economic landscape. The agenda includes:

  • Driving Sustainable Development and Climate Action for Enhanced Capital Flows in Africa
  • Realising The Africa Continental Free Trade Area: Boosting Trade and Economic Development
  • Empowering Workforce Development and Economic Growth
  • Maximizing Public Net Worth – Strategies for Sustainable Economic Growth and Financial Stability
  • Tech-Enabled Transformation
  • Exploring the Nexus Between Corruption and Sustainable Development: Challenges and Pathways to Progress
  • Financial Innovators: How Accountants Are Redefining Business Models in Africa
  • Technology & Innovation: The Role of Fintech, Ai, And Blockchain in Reshaping Africa’s Financial Landscape
  • A Women in Accountancy Forum

By bringing together thought leaders, ACOA 2025 will facilitate robust dialogue and knowledge exchange, ensuring that discussions translate into impactful solutions.

  • Policy dialogues that influence regional economic reforms.
  • Investment roundtables that connect financiers with high-potential initiatives.

  • Workshops and training that equip professionals with future-ready skills.

By the end of ACOA 2025, attendees will not only have gained insights but also contributed to actionable frameworks that drive sustainable growth.
